TL;DR

All data in the data warehouse will be classified, and this classification recorded against the data, as close as possible to the data.

Rational

By classifying our data we can ensure that the data is properly treated according to the relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Implications

Classifying data is a labour intensive task, and will require a significant amount of time from staff, especially with respect to legacy data.

Data may be incorrectly classified, and therefore treated incorrectly.
